Mission in Film

Evil only prospers when the good people do nothing - this was the closing quotation to a film I have just finished watching this evening. Tears of the Sun. At the moment I am thinking quite a bit about various things in the last wee while

Mission as it is the main thing for my dissertation

Africa as I am doing a presentation on tuesday to a group coming into college

and subjects associated with the arts for spirituality

and then there is a book I read last year - Mission shaped Spirituality.

A few questions for me were raised in this movie when looking through the christian Lens

Knowing as I have over the years individuals who have lived through the most horrific events Genocide in Rwanda, the situation in south africa, the Idi Amin Years in Uganda.

The Beginnings

Project: Mission

Parishes right across Ireland support mission financially, prayerfully and practically each year. Mission at home and abroad takes up much time, energy and money. It is my aim in this project to take a glimpse under the bonnet of churches who are involved mission overseas to get to the core of their belief as to what they are actually doing, what lessons they have learnt from their mission experience and interview individuals who have been involved .

This will be completed to include the core Biblical understanding of the Churches role in mission and evangelism

Understanding of the individual Christian’s role in God’s mission for the church

Looking at individual experiences of mission from parish life at home and abroad

Rationale
This project has grown out of my own involvement with the Church Mission Society Ireland (CMSI) on overseas teams as well as Mission teams at home with Crosslinks and Scripture Union Northern Ireland.

Aims
- To outline the theological concept of mission

- To discuss with individuals their perception of mission why they are involved in it

-
